Tiempo de Juego Football for Peace in Olaya and Santa Rita

The idea is simple. Keep the kids busy playing football, build up self-esteem, give them hope and a future that doesn't involve guns or gangs.

It works.

Tiempo de Juego was the brainchild of Colombian TV and documentary producer Andres Wiesner in 2004.

Backed by FIFA and the International Organisation for Migration, amongst a long list of donors of time and money that also includes This IS Cartagena, Tiempo de Juego works to better the lives of more than 1,500 children in Bogota and Cartagena.

In the seven years it has been running it has built a professional football pitch in Cazuca, one of the most run-down and neglected corners of Bogota.

In Cartagena it now runs football training sessions for almost 700 children in conjunction with Colombianitos the foundation of CNN en Español's anchorwoman Patricia Janot in Olaya and Santa Rita.

To help make the project in Cartagena more self-funding it has established a bakery which is looking for socially conscious hotels and restaurants willing to make a difference.

The foundation is always looking for volunteers looking to get involved in any way they can - offering English classes, football coaches, bakers as well as generous benefactors ready to donate money to buy footballs, uniforms or to help fund a permanent social worker.
